Preparing for Passover can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to make sure your kitchen, pantry, and seder table are fully stocked. At Kosher Food Warehouse, we’ve created a simple guide to help you plan exactly what to buy so you can approach Passover with confidence and avoid last-minute shopping stress.
To make things easier, we maintain an updated provisional Passover grocery list that includes all the key products we expect to carry this season. Because Passover inventory changes frequently as shipments arrive, we recommend checking the list regularly for updates.

How Much Meat Should You Buy for Passover?
A helpful rule of thumb when planning your Passover meals is to buy between 0.5 lb and 1 lb of meat per person, depending on the type of meal and how many other dishes will be served.
For example:
- Large seder with many courses: ~0.5 lb per person
- Meat-focused meal: ~0.75–1 lb per person
If you are cooking brisket, it’s important to plan for shrinkage during cooking. Briskets typically lose around 30–40% of their weight, which can equal about 1 pound or more depending on the size and fat content. Buying a slightly larger brisket than you think you need helps ensure there is enough to serve everyone comfortably, and even some left overs.

Whole brisket or first cut brisket - What's the difference?
Whole Brisket - fattier and more moist cut. It has more marbling throughout.
1st Cut Brisket - Leaner cut with a meatier flavour (due to less fat content). Be sure to keep an eye on moisture, this cut is more prone to drying out!
If you’re unsure how much to purchase, our team at Kosher Food Warehouse is always happy to help you plan portions for your seder or holiday meals.
